The past years has seen much talk about the modular home’s popularity, but the number of these homes purchased has been low.
According to U.S. News, modular homes made up less than 1.5 percent of all homes built in the U.S. in 2014, which amounts to about 14,000 homes. The largest share of modular home construction is in the Northeast, where weather conditions are harsh and labor costs are high.
But this year, proponents and manufacturers of modular homes say that there is more design flexibility for the buyer, and that prefab homes are poised to increase in number in the U.S.
