Living in a major U.S. city can mean spending extra time alone in the car, commuting to and from work. For most commuting Americans, this is almost an hour, round-trip.

Using Census Bureau data, Business Insider and WalletHub ranked over 100 of the most populated cities based on the average number of minutes spent traveling from home to work, and evaluated how people commute to and from work.

In most of the cities where Americans have the longest commutes, the majority of commuters drive alone. In just three of these cities the majority of commuters take public transportation.
