American homeowners are moving less than ever before, and a substantial number of homeowners say it's because they plan to pass down their home to a family member.

Nearly one quarter of the survey respondents in Zillow's Consumer Housing Trends Report 2017, say they will be handing down their home. Roughly 86 percent of all homeowners in the U.S. have no plans to move in the next three years. Just 4.2 percent of American homeowners moved between 2015 and 2016, almost half the 7.7 percent rate reported in 1990.
