A new ranking analyzes 100 cities' affordability, walkability, crime rate, and unemployment rate to find the most livable in the U.S. Arlington, Virginia topped the list, while Arizona and California each had a few cities cracking the top 10.

The largest city in the top 10 was Honolulu, Hawaii, with the 55th-largest population, signaling that mid-sized cities tend to be more livable, per SmartAsset's findings. The five of the bottom 15 cities ranked were in the Midwest, with three from Ohio (Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Toledo).

Arlington, Virginia is the most livable city in the United States in 2017 ... The unemployment rate is only 2.8%. Plus, after paying for housing costs, the average resident will have about $40,000 in income. That comfortable gap between average income and housing costs means there should be plenty left over for Arlington residents to invest in their 401(k)s or save for retirement.
