Cities with the most homes for sale that advertise eco-friendly amenities—such as solar panels, double-pane windows, and energy-efficient appliances—are also the cities that need those amenities the most, because their carbon footprints tend to be bigger. In a Zillow analysis, California cities were found to have some of the most energy-efficient homes, but not the lowest carbon footprint.
