Designers and homeowners are catching on to encaustic cement tiles.
The New York Times reports that the colorful matte tiles are as decorative as they are practical, and people are willing to pay a premium for them. Manufacturers that now offer cement tiles include Ann Sacks, Cement Tile Shop, Clé, Exquisite Surfaces, Granada Tile, and Villa Lagoon Tile.
As Roman Alonso, a founder of Commune, explained: “Cement tile communicates something completely different than ceramic tile: It’s a vibe that’s more Mediterranean. We like it a lot because you can also use it indoor-outdoor” — with kitchens flowing seamlessly into outdoor patios.
