Though they are iconic, historic, and, above all, beautiful, homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright don’t sell themselves.

The New York Times spoke with brokers and owners tasked with selling these homes. Among the key challenges is convincing buyers to spend millions of dollars on a home with small bedrooms and kitchens, cement floors, no garages, and no air conditioning. Plus, it’s hard work to sort out serious buyers from people who may just want a rare in-person look at a Wright home.

About 45 Wright properties have changed hands in the last five years. … The process is not easy, with many going on and off the market over many years, as owners try to find buyers willing to assume the responsibility while appreciating what they are getting.
