On October 30th, HomeAid America, a national nonprofit and one of the largest builders of housing for the homeless in the U.S., launched its annual Homelessness Awareness Month for November 2017.

Starting November 1st, HomeAid’s 17 chapters based across the country will be hosting a campaign of events and activities, called “30 Ways in 30 Days,” to help end hunger and homelessness across the country. Activities include a two-week blanket drive, Care Kit collection drives, and a screening of the documentary Mighty Ground. Each week of the campaign will focus on youth at risk, veterans, homeless families, and hunger. The calendar of events runs through December 9th.

“For the richest country in the world to allow so many to go unfed and unsheltered is a national tragedy, and one we can do something about,” said Peter Simons, CEO of HomeAid America in a statement. “HomeAid’s Homelessness Awareness Month is a time to focus on this problem, have a genuine discussion about solutions, and take action to get this societal problem solved once and for all.”

In a statement, HomeAid America reports that 3.5 million Americans, including 1 million children, are experiencing homelessness, and that approximately 80 percent of the homeless are situational and can be transitioned back to self-sufficiency.
