Based on factors including health care, infrastructure, overall stability, and environment, Honolulu was found to be the most livable city in the U.S.

CBS News reports that the Economist ranked the world’s best cities, and Honolulu was the highest-ranked American entry, at No. 17. Also on the list were Washington D.C., Boston, Chicago, and Miami.

"One of the worst-performing U.S. cities is New York, in livability terms, but that's because a lot of these big cities are victims of their own success," said Jon Copestake, the livability survey's editor. "A city that's large and economically wealthy attracts people, as a result of which the infrastructure can get overburdened."

Affordability did not factor into the rankings.
