Do not pass go, do not collect $200, and "forget real estate. You can't afford it anyway." That last one is a new tagline for Hasbro's "Monopoly for Millennials" board game.

The manufacturer is cashing in on Millennial stereotypes with a new object of the game: collecting "experiences like going to a vegan bistro, bingewatching, or going to a music festival, rather than the traditional gameplay of becoming a real estate tycoon. In reality, housing market conditions are not favorable for Millennial homebuyers as income growth remains untethered from home price appreciation. Yet, Realtor.com senior economist Joseph Kirchner advises Millennials, "Buying a home is the primary way that the middle class builds wealth ... It's not a good thing that first-time homebuyers are having difficulties affording their first home,but they should strive for it, because it's a way to bolster their financial futures."

"We created Monopoly for Millennials to provide fans with a lighthearted game that allows millennials to take a break from real life and laugh at the relatable experiences and labels that can sometimes be placed on them," Hasbro officials said in a statement. "With many of us being millennials ourselves, we understand the seemingly endless struggles and silly generalizations that young millennials can face (and we can’t even!)."
