Millennials really are starting out at the bottom.
Business Insider has state-by-state median income figures for Millennials, defined as people born between 1981 and 1997. While young adults in Washington, D.C., are doing well ($43,000 median income), no other state has a figure above $26,000. Montana’s median income is the lowest, at $18,000.
Also listed are the median personal income for all employees for each state. While Millennials earn $23,000 in Illinois, workers as a whole make $37,500.
