The Urban Land Institute’s Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance released a new report outlining 10 principles for building resilient cities that can effectively recover from immediate and long-term stressors.

From rising sea levels and poverty to shocking wildfires and hurricanes, the report advocates that city and regional leaders base their designs and building projects in resilience to create vibrant and healthy communities. The Urban Land Institute's Archana Pyati deepens the point by saying that strengthening local housing markets, the workforce, and social networks, and "taking an equitable approach to resilience investments so that under-resourced neighborhoods, frequently located in areas with significant climate change–related risks, have a fair shot at bouncing back after adverse events."

“These ten principles and their supporting, specific strategies empower decision makers to integrate resilience into all aspects of community building. From adequately pricing the cost of risk and inaction to investing in green infrastructure that creates multiple benefits to harnessing the power of innovative technologies to respond to crises and recover, this report provides a playbook for communities on the path to becoming more resilient.”
