A number of young professionals in New York City want to better connect with their cultural and spiritual roots, in style.
The New York Times reports that luxury buildings in Brooklyn and Manhattan are starting to add communal and natural amenities for those who want a taste of hippiedom.
The developments have features including rooftop gardens, composters, bike shares, aviaries, kombucha workshops, community-supported agriculture, and even Wi-Fi-connected adult treehouses.
Christine Blackburn, an associate broker at Compass real estate, said that gardening, for some, is a version of meditation. “Maybe they’re not sitting there with a meditation app, but sticking their hands in the soil — it doesn’t matter if someone’s making $10 million a year — it can be very therapeutic.”
