After considering locations around the country, Charter Homes & Neighborhoods will build a new Great American Neighborhood in the South Fayette Township just outside of Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that growth in the Pittsburgh area and the addition of tech companies like Google and Uber earned the metro the nod. It will be the sixth Great American Neighborhood in the region. Charter Homes & Neighborhoods is based in Lancaster, in the eastern part of Pennsylvania.
The new 180-acre neighborhood will be called Hastings.
The formula for the Great American Neighborhood is based on a concept to incorporate character and context with community, customizing each development on a community-by-community basis. It replaces traditional suburban subdivisions with neighborhoods that blend proximity to shops, outdoor life, time-proven architectural principals, multi-generational housing options and a range of housing prices.
