The Super Bowl is back, and you know what that means: Gambling! It is estimated that Americans will bet around $4.2 billion on Super Bowl-related bets this year. There are the big ones, obviously, like who will win the game and who will be MVP. There are smaller ones, such as who will win the opening coin toss. Then there are the ones that are just downright weird, like how many times will “dab” or “dabbing” be said by announces during the broadcast, what color liquid will be poured on the winning coach, and, will a Broncos win mean the 2016 stock market and housing market will be up for the year.

That’s right, for seven straight years when an NFC team has won the Super Bowl the market has been up for that year, whereas a win by an AFC team sends the market down. But Jonathan Smoke, chief economist at realtor.com, took this idea a bit further. Smoke took the January performance of the Dow Jones and attempted to reverse engineer a prediction for the outcome of the game.

The conclusion? The Denver Broncos will be this year’s Super Bowl Champs, which in turn, means you should expect a strong year for the housing market. So get your bets placed and be ready to reap the rewards of this completely unscientifically generated prediction! Click the link for a more in depth look at a break down of the numbers.
