Silicon Valley is still the center of technology, but other cities are quickly emerging.

Realtor.com found the best cities for tech jobs, based on the percentage of local job postings in technology. While San Jose ranked first at 19 percent, its share of the nation’s tech jobs decreased 6 percent from the first half of 2016 to 2017.

Washington D.C., at 17 percent, and Baltimore, at 13 percent, rank second and third, boosted by their proximity to government entities.

"It's about power," says Washington, DC, real estate agent Christopher Itteilag. "Tech is the future of our country—it's important for people in that sector to be close to the policymakers to ensure everyone is on the same page and our country and economy can move forward as seamlessly as possible, hand in hand embracing new technology."

Seattle is the nation’s fastest-growing tech hub, with an 11 percent increase in tech jobs over the past year. It ranked fourth on the Realtor.com list, at 12.5 percent. Raleigh, N.C., was fifth at 11 percent.
