Don’t think of the Internet of Things as web-connected home technology. Think of it as peace of mind.
That’s at least what the experts think about it, according to the Wall Street Journal. Popular services like Uber, SolarCity, Icontrol Networks, and even Brita (which has smart pitchers that re-order their own water filters) utilize IOT tech but are positioned as “hardware as a service.” The underlying technology features are not stressed; only the end result is.
“When internet-connected devices are considered a service, consumers don’t have to worry about integrating gadgets,” WSJ’s Christopher Mims writes. “Focusing on services also helps vendors clarify their offerings.”
