It’s been a year since Detroit exited its unprecedented bankruptcy. The Pew Charitable Trusts released a report on how the city stands today, and concludes that things are looking up.

And, “That’s not wrong,” writes Kriston Capps, CityLab’s staff writer on housing, architecture, and design.

“Some of the indicators are more mixed, or beneficial to only some parts of the city, like the new Red Wings arena and the attendant $650 million entertainment district, or the streetcar going up along Woodward Avenue,” he adds.

But, Capps writes, there are some aspects of Detroit that could “fairly be described as worsening,” such as the vacancy crisis which makes forward progress “extremely difficult.”
