For its 2020 Color of the Year, Pantone announced Classic Blue as the winner, a traditional shade that can be used comfortably (if sparingly) in multiple areas of a house. We found seven places to start.

A departure from the brightness of last year’s Living Coral, Classic Blue has reassuring, tranquil qualities, which is why the people at Pantone chose the hue for 2020.

"We're living in a time that requires trust and faith, and it's this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone's 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue we can rely on," Leatrice Eisman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says.

In addition to the Color of the Year, Pantone also released a multi-sensory experience that includes a berry tea, blue fabrics, and an original musical composition called “Vivid Nostalgia.”

“The Pantone Color of the Year highlights the relationship between trends in color and what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time, a color that reflects what individuals feel they need that color can hope to answer,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, adds. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions, designers and brands should feel inspired to use color to engage and connect.”
