Houston is one of five U.S. cities that cracked the top 50 in a new ranking.

Online real estate portal Homeday created their ranking using 15 factors identified by parents as contributing to what makes a city great, including infrastructure, maternity laws, healthcare quality, happiness levels, activities for children, and expert perception, per The Houston Chronicle. Houston's best scores were for affordability, and housing.

Houston was among nine U.S. cities to make the ranking, with an average score of 7.0 out of 10. It placed behind Seattle (No. 31; score 7.21), and ahead of seven other cities including Boston, San Francisco, and New York. The cities received the lowest score on the country's maternity/paternity laws.
