Ahead of the third annual National Tile Day, certified kitchen and bath designer Alena Capra has curated a list of tile trend predictions for 2019.

In preparation for both National Tile Day, celebrated on February 23, and this year’s Coverings show, the team at Coverings is working with its industry ambassadors to celebrate tile trends and design. Coverings, which is the largest international tile and stone conference and exhibition in North America, will take place April 9-12, 2019.

“National Tile Day is an opportunity to reflect on the true impact and advancements of tile—while giving designers a chance to showcase their favorite projects,” said Capra, one of Coverings’ industry ambassadors. “We are thrilled to spotlight one of the oldest known building materials, which serves as the foundation of so many designs.”

Capra will publish her trends forecast in detail via Facebook Live on February 23. Her list includes bold statement looks across everything from color, to pattern, to size. See a preview of her six 2019 predictions below.

1. Florals and Leaves
Capra says floral- and leaf-patterned tiles are a durable alternative to wallpaper.

2. Mirror Tile
“One of the fastest rising trends, mirrored tile amplifies light and adds personality, with antique or frosted finishes and beveled edges,” Capra says.

3. Gauged Porcelain Tile Panels/Slabs
Gauged tile applications are becoming more common, especially as cladding on buildings, walls, floors, or in surfacing applications like kitchen countertops.

4. Bold Color
“While blue remains America’s favorite color, brighter hues are on the rise,” Capra says. Blacks and dark greys are also popular as neutrals.

5. Pattern Play
Following the resurgence of patterned wallpaper, bold tile patterns are also trending. This includes striking shapes, complex geometric patterns, pop art, graphics, and patterned wood looks.
