Builder Creating a New 'Tradition'

Jan. 22, 2019

Dallas-Fort Worth-based home builder Bill Darling is getting back into the industry with his second family-run company, Tradition Homes.

Darling founded Darling Homes with his brothers in the 1980s, and then sold the company to Taylor Morrison Homes in 2013. "My non-compete was up at the end of the year," says Darling. The builder tells Dallas News that creating Tradition Homes with his son-in-law, Zach Schneider, is a dream come true. "Zach's always wanted to build a home building company. We are going to take it good and slow and look for A-plus locations. We look to continue some relationships we have had for the last 30 years."

Tradition Homes will sell houses that start around $500,000, Darling said. "We have always been in master-planned communities, which was a protection from downturns in my opinion," he said. "We are going to keep the same focus." While sales have slowed in the last few months, D-FW continues to be one of the country's largest homebuilding markets. Last year, builders started just under 35,000 new houses in North Texas.
