Los Angeles-based tech company Cover designs structures using computer algorithms. Its latest project seeks to make designing and building accessory dwelling units (ADUs) easier and less expensive.
Cover's ADU has one bedroom and one bathroom, sized 436 square feet. The unit layout was "optimized" by surveying the homeowner clients, and then plugging in the data to the algorithm, which then decides where to place windows, doors, and how to size the rooms based on intended use, Curbed reports.
The prefab design is clean and inoffensive—it’s exactly what you’d get if you left things to a computer algorithm. But Cover’s biggest selling point isn’t really aesthetics; it’s the fact that the system does everything for you—Cover helps you design, build, and even research zoning and permits.
