THE HOME DEPOT EXPANDS PRO ECOSYSTEM WITH FOUR NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

The Home Depot has announced plans to open four new distribution centers in 2024, strategically located in Detroit, southern Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Toronto. These centers will play a crucial role in enhancing the company's support for professional customers by stocking a wide range of large and bulky items essential for their projects, including lumber, insulation, roofing materials, and more.

With the introduction of these distribution centers, professionals will have the convenience of ordering job lot quantities directly from the facilities, with deliveries scheduled to their job sites. This streamlined process is expected to alleviate congestion in local Home Depot stores and ensure that in-store professional customers have access to a sufficient inventory of essential materials.

"Pros need a partner with the right product, depth of product, fulfillment capabilities, sales support and management tools to help them get their jobs done," said Chip Devine, senior vice president of outside sales for The Home Depot. "Over the last several years, we have been investing to deliver a faster, more convenient, differentiated experience for our pros. Our distribution network is one piece of the comprehensive pro ecosystem we’re building to better meet the needs of this important customer.”  

In addition to the distribution centers, The Home Depot is implementing several strategies to enhance its pro offerings, including:

  • Tailored Product Assortments: The company will curate localized product assortments tailored to the specific needs of each market.
  • Dedicated Sales Teams: The deployment of dedicated sales teams in priority markets will provide personalized support and assistance to professional customers.
  • Digital Tools for Order Management: New digital tools and order management capabilities will simplify the process of managing complex pro orders, enhancing efficiency and convenience.
  • Pilot Program for Trade Credit: The Home Depot is launching a pilot program for trade credit to provide select pro customers with additional financial flexibility.
  • Tiered Pricing Structure: Introduction of tiered pricing based on purchasing volume and loyalty will ensure that professionals receive competitive pricing.

Furthermore, The Home Depot recently acquired Construction Resources, a distributor specializing in design-oriented surfaces and architectural products. This acquisition reportedly strengthens The Home Depot's ability to support professionals engaged in renovation, remodeling, and residential home building projects.
