Number of Homes for Sale in Climate-Risk Areas Grows in August
This is especially the case for homes in warmer climates, as more than half of new listings are in areas that experience extreme heat

Areas that experience extremely hot temperatures have seen the highest increase in home listings.
As climate change has ramped up over the past decade, more homes are being affected by severe weather events. This has caused the number of home listings in climate-risk areas to increase. Recent analysis by housing market platform Zillow shows that more homes listed for sale in August across the U.S. are exposed to significant climate risks compared with the same period five years ago. At the same time, more than 80% of homebuyers now consider climate-related risks when purchasing a home.
Across all new listings of existing homes nationwide in August, more than half (55.5%) have a major risk of extreme heat and a third are at major risk of extreme wind exposure. That compares to 16.7% at major wildfire risk, 13% with major air quality risk and 12.8% with major risk of flooding.
