Politics to Sway Moving Trends in 2025

In 2025, more than 40% of Americans say they are looking to move this year, and of those, nearly half cite the current political climate as their main reason

Navigating uncertainty in the housing market, many Americans in 2025 are contemplating whether to stay in their current homes or relocate. A recent report from online lending marketplace LendingTree shows that 40% of Americans are considering a move this year, and of those, 48% cite the current political climate as their main motivator. Of those surveyed, 43% of Americans are willing to pay more to live in areas that align with their political values, especially Generation Z and Millennials. The presidential election has also influenced potential movers, with 41% saying the results make them more likely to relocate.

Safety and access to health care will play a role in where people choose to live in 2025. While 87% of all respondents say they have access to adequate health care in their current location, 14% of women and 13% of men disagree. On top of that, 11% of Democrats say they don’t feel safe where they live, compared with 8% of Republicans who say the same. Among those who feel unsafe, 62% say they’ll move because of it.
