Foreclosure Filings Decline in November

Month-over-month, foreclosure activity decreased by approximately 5%
Dec. 10, 2024

Despite ongoing challenges in the housing market, foreclosure activity has declined across the U.S. According to property data provider ATTOM’s November 2024 Foreclosure Market Report, 29,390 properties faced foreclosure filings in November. This was a 9% drop compared with the same period last year and a 5% decrease from October. Nationwide, one in every 4,795 housing units had a foreclosure filing during the month, with some states affected more than others. States with the highest foreclosure rates included Nevada, Florida, Connecticut, Maryland, and Indiana, with Nevada leading at one in every 2,941 housing units affected.

“The slight decline in U.S. foreclosure activity during November most likely reflects the seasonal ebb we often see this time of year,” said Rob Barber, CEO at ATTOM. “While foreclosure filings are down both month-over-month and year-over-year, the data highlights areas of the country, such as Nevada, Florida, and Connecticut, where foreclosure rates remain relatively high. As we move into 2025, we’ll be closely monitoring how economic pressures and market dynamics may influence a potential rebound in activity.” Read more
