Quartz surfacing brand Cambria is set to launch a thin and lightweight version of its traditional product line.
Designed for weight-sensitive applications in residential or commercial projects, the 6-millimeter thick slabs, the company says, “retains the elegance and performance of Cambria quartz surfaces with added functional advantages, provides more versatility in design options, and is a complement to the brand’s 1-centimeter, 2-centimeter, and 3-centimeter slab offerings.

“We’re excited to be leading the quartz industry not only with new technology and award-winning designs, but with revolutionary products and innovation,” says Arik Tendler, chief sales officer for the Minneapolis-based company. “The 6mm product is the perfect opportunity to use Cambria designs in any weight-sensitive implementations. We cannot wait to get this product into the market as we are confident the demand is there.”
Cambria says the extra thin slabs solve a need for commercial clients—in industries like healthcare, furniture, and luxury transportation like yachting and aviation—who routinely encounter weight-sensitivities in projects, as well as for residential clients looking for cladding options on fireplaces, backsplashes, and shower and tub surrounds, or for an answer to unique applications, such as cabinet veneering and backlighting. “Now Cambria will be able to offer its aesthetic, service, and performance without compromise, even when there is a need for a lightweight and thin solution,” the brand says.

The 6-millimeter slabs (the thickness equivalent of three stacked nickels) will launch in 10 designs: White Cliff, Whitehall, Swanbridge, Ella, Portrush, Brittanicca Warm, Skara Brae, Carrick, Buxton, and Blackpool Matte. Slabs also come in two finishes—Cambria Matte and high gloss.
Each product works with mitered or reverse mitered edge profiles only, or Z profiles for any exposed edges. In addition, multiple Cambria designs can be properly backlit and thermoformed (heated to a pliable forming temperature and formed to a specific shape) at a thickness of 6 millimeters.
“The 6-millimeter release enters the market at a time when demand is increasing for modern thin countertops and special vertical cladding opportunities like walls, overhead applications, shower and tub surrounds, and elevators,” the company says. “The Cambria team works hand in hand with its partners to ensure a seamless fabrication and installation process with customized consultation and SOPs available for all applications.”

As the demand for thin countertops increased, European ceramic tile manufacturers were the first ones to begin offering thin ceramic slabs for remodeling and retrofit situations in kitchens, baths, an other spaces in the home. Quartz brands are doing the same.
Much like its other quartz surfacing, the thinner profiles combine both design and durability, the company says. Each is nonabsorbent, stain resistant, strong, and maintenance free. Cambria quartz surfacing is sold through an exclusive network of independent specialty retail and trade partners and is available now.
