It's well understood that construction work has its risks, but recent data show that some states have a greater number of construction-related injuries and deaths than others. While the construction industry is generally high-risk due to the nature of the tasks involved, workers in Nevada face the greatest danger, according to Pro Tool Reviews. In fact, 50.39% of Nevada’s construction workers have experienced work-related injuries or illnesses, and the state also has the highest number of construction deaths. This is likely due to factors such as extreme heat, desert conditions, and rough terrain, which increase the chances of accidents and health problems. Vermont and Maine also have higher rates of work-related injuries, with 31.89% and 15.24% of workers affected, respectively.
Certain states are also becoming more dangerous for construction workers. Topping that list are Connecticut, Alaska, and Oregon.
While Connecticut experienced the largest five-year increase in construction injuries, it has also seen the largest increase in injuries resulting in death. The number of construction workers fatally injured rose from three in 2017 to nine in 2022, representing an increase of over two-thirds (66.67%).
