Construction Job-Related Injuries Drop to Lowest Point in Over 10 Years

The rate of construction-related injuries and illnesses appear to be improving, according to Construction Dive. In 2023, the rate of workplace injuries and illnesses among construction workers declined, with just 2.3 nonfatal incidents per 100 full-time workers. This is down from 2.4 nonfatal incidents the previous year and is the lowest injury rate in the last 10 years.

The raw number of nonfatal injuries and illnesses, however, increased 2.1%, from 169,600 to 173,200, per the BLS. Five industries counted more injuries and illnesses in 2023 than construction.

All told, the private construction industry accounted for 6.7% of total recordable nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in 2023, up from 6.0% in 2022. Read more
