Detroit Event Showcases Factory-Built Homes as an Affordable Housing Solution
A recent event in Detroit is highlighting the potential factory-built homes can bring to the housing market. The Tomorrow's Housing Innovation Showcase demonstrates how manufactured homes can be used as a quick, affordable housing solution, according to nonprofit organization Gilbert Family Foundation, which hosted the showcase along with the North Corktown Neighborhood Association.
The showcase features seven manufactured homes, chosen with community input, to demonstrate various design options. The featured homes range in size from 780 to 1,700 square feet with two- and three-bedroom layouts. Through the program, the homes will be sold to residents earning 80% or less of the area's median income.
Housing technology has evolved significantly in recent years, increasing optionality, design and utility of the homes. Tomorrow's Housing Innovation Showcase engaged several national experts to work with the community throughout the design process.
"Factory-built homes aren't just about efficiency and speed—they're about creating high-quality, housing that can strengthen communities like North Corktown," said Chris Nicely, President, ManufacturedHomes.com and a consultant on the project. By embracing these modern construction techniques, we're providing attainable homeownership opportunities for more families, while also driving new manufacturing opportunities in Detroit."
