There was a slight decline on a year-over-year basis for custom home building, the NAHB reports.
There were 27,000 starts at the beginning of 2014 and 26,000 starts for the first quarter of 2015. The analysis does not include homes intended for sale.
The market share of custom home building in terms of total single-family starts is now 24.3 percent. To put that into perspective, it peaked during the second quarter of 2009 at 31.5 percent.
