Is this the First Built-In Filtered Water Dispenser for the Home?

Sink and faucet manufacturer Elkay has unveiled a new built-in filtered water dispenser that the company says is the first of its kind in the residential industry.

The ezH2O Liv, the company says, eliminates trips to the store to purchase heavy, expensive cases of single-use, disposable plastic water bottles that take up storage space. Elkay says the unit is a re-engineered version of its ezH2O dispenser that is commonly found in schools and at airports.

“Imagine hosting a party where guests can help themselves to fresh, filtered water from a stylish, built-in water dispenser in an entertaining space outside the kitchen,” the company says. “Elkay is proud to introduce the first built-in filtered water dispenser designed especially for the home. The unit features our NSF-certified filter, giving homeowners the added assurance of knowing they are serving family and friends cleaner, heathier water.”

Featuring a built-in glass-front with a brushed stainless steel alcove, the dispenser has an LED sensor light that indicates when the filter needs to be changed and a Green Ticker that counts bottles saved from waste. The intuitive alcove lighting brightens when dispensing water.

The dispenser uses a filter that is NSF-certified to reduce lead and other harmful contaminants. “Filters with lead-reduction capabilities are not standard and are rarely found on refrigerators with water dispensers,” the company says.

Other features of the unit include a sensor that permits hands-free filling with automatic timed shut off; safety lock that prevents unsupervised use; and easy installation (it fits within the width and depth of two wall studs). Because the unit is built-in, homeowners may install the dispenser in convenient areas of the home, such as inside or outside the kitchen, a mudroom, recreation room, playroom, or second-floor hallway.

The produt comes in two models: a refrigerated or a non-refrigerated version. It also comes in two finishes—a glass front in Midnight or Aspen White.

It’s priced from $1,300.
