General Electric Co., a longtime leader in home appliances, is selling its appliances division to Swedish company Electrolux AB.
Bloomberg View columnist Megan McArdle points out that it is a strategic move for the electronics conglomerate. “Sell a stove to a consumer, and you’ve gotten all the money you’re ever going to get out of the transaction,” she argues. “Corporate contracts, on the other hand, deliver ongoing revenue streams for maintenance and support.”
