The appeal of a shipping container home – its durability and modularity – may soon be outdone by an Australian company’s modular home product.
Nova Deko, an Australian modular home company, is producing modular houses built to the dimensions of a shipping container, but using a lot less steel (because it doesn’t need to be stacked nine high) and with properly insulated walls made of appropriate materials. Unlike shipping containers, these structures are designed and built to be lived in, so Nova Deko is working with the University of New South Wales to develop the product in such a way as to also to reduce its carbon footprint and become an affordable and sustainable home.
