Analysis ranged from looking at greenhouse-gas emissions per capita to the number of smart-energy policies and initiatives.
The Big Apple’s number one spot can be attributed to landing in the top five for all metrics: environmental quality, greenness of energy sources, green lifestyle and local policies, and even landing number one for greenness of transportation.
In descending order, New York is joined in the top five by Portland, Ore., San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Honolulu.
