Here Are the Most Affordable Destinations for Migrating Homebuyers

As housing costs reach new highs, Americans are relocating to these in-demand markets for greater affordability

Throughout the pandemic, soaring house prices and the increasing prevalence of remote work motivated an elevated share of homebuyers to relocate for affordability. During the three months ending in November, 24.1% of U.S. homebuyers were looking to move to a different metro area, up from 18% in 2019, Forbes reports.

The top destination for migrating buyers is Sacramento, where the average home is $540,000 compared with San Francisco’s average $1.5 million home price tag. Las Vegas is another hotspot for out-of-state buyers, and Florida’s relatively inexpensive real estate makes it a desirable location for incoming house hunters as well.

Five Florida locations made the list, thanks to the low cost of real estate. Miami came in number 3 on the Redfin list, followed by Tampa (number 4), Cape Coral (number 7), North Port-Sarasota (number 9) and Orlando (number 10).

Overall, the Sunbelt was the big winner, with every state on the list coming from this region.
