Oakland, Calif.-based AJK Design Studio, a fabricator of custom metal grilles and registers, has released a new Moroccan pattern with influences of 13th century Moorish tiles found in the mosques and souks of Marrakesh.

“Moroccan is an abstract pattern of overlapping circles echoing the interlocking geometric patterns adorning Moroccan architecture,” the company said in a statement.

Suitable for floor-, ceiling-, or wall-mount applications, Moroccan is available in steel, brushed or polished stainless, and brushed or polished brass. It also may be ordered in 10 powder-coated colors or primed for a paint-to-match option.

Annie Kantor, a textile designer, launched AJK Design Studio in May 2015 when she was frustrated by the lack of options during a personal architecture project. Now she offers custom products to trade professionals and consumers.

“All of my products are custom made to order,” says Kantor, who serves as design director of the company. “I have a line of 12 signature designs, all of which came about from custom projects. The 12 designs are customizable as to scale of pattern, material, and size. Lead-time on these is four to six weeks.”

Kantor begins each design with a hand-drawn sketch or painting, which she then scans into a textile design CAD program. “All designs are laser cut, and then welded to a frame onto which metal louvers attach,” she says. “Grilles can either be ordered with or without louvers, and the louvers can either be concealment louvers fixed at a 45-degree angle or adjustable.”

The Moroccan design is customizable by size, thickness, and scale of pattern.
