Cross-laminate timber (CLT) has been a big hit in Australia and Europe, but it’s still a novelty in the United States, local NBC affiliate King 5 reports.
The material is made out of three layers of compressed lumber that has the same resistance as drywall. The pre-assembled CLT panels are stacked up as if they were Legos, allowing for faster construction. Benefit for the neighbors? Instead of two months of heavy hammering sounds, they just hear two week of machinery hums.
