Green architecture columnist Lloyd Alter looks at the numbers that show glass condos are both inefficient and expensive.
“Thanks to the different rates of expansion between aluminum and glass, over the years the seals break down between the framing and the glass, the argon gets out of the sealed units and moisture gets in,” Alter writes. “Pretty soon the whole system has to be replaced.”
And the price tag on this replacement, as Alter reports, doesn’t come cheap.
