To forecast housing trends and needs of America’s aging population, The Huffington Post continues coverage of Merill Lynch’s “Home in Retirement” report.
The study documented two distinct phases in retirement: the first phase spans 15 to 20 years and is characterized by a more freedom and new choices for how and where people choose to live.
The second phase is when the retiree reaches their 80s and lose the ability to live independently.
“Among people 85+ – the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population – three quarters have difficulties with at least some daily activities,” The Huffington Post reports.
For this group of retirees, aging in place is a popular option.
