Many car companies including Tesla, BMW, General Motors, and Volvo offer apps that allow owners to start their cars or turn on the heat or air conditioning before they leave their office or home.
Today, most car keys include chips that prevent theft, can’t be duplicated, and sometimes don’t need to be removed from purses or pockets in order to work. According to the New York Times, the evolution of technology may make the app key a more common option but likely won’t completely replace car keys in the immediate future.
