Tiny houses are being recognized by builders for being practical and cost-efficient. A town in Canada has now even approved a sustainable housing development for homes under 1,000 sf.
Lantier, a community north of Montreal, hosted a tiny house festival last weekend where hundreds of people toured the small dwellings, according to treehugger.com. The plan is for the town to add 200 tiny houses in an effort to revitalize the area and generate more jobs.
Several of the houses at the festival were constructed of locally-sourced wood, were well under 1,000 square feet (in the 200 to 300 square feet range), and were priced around $50,000. The homes will share a communal area for community activities and other projects.
