The Wall Street Journal points out four hot trends in kitchen design, what’s hot about them, and what’s not.

For example, reclaimed wood is a big trend. “Kitchen cabinets made from reclaimed wood or with reclaimed-wood surfaces provide a sense of ‘history’ and complement black metal hardware,” Owner of Urban Homes in New York City Jacob Kindler tells The Wall Street Journal.

But the downside is the material’s high price, and it requires cleaning with specialized cleansers

Other trends covered are glass and ceramic surfaces, hydraulic lifts, and mixing and matching materials.
