Austin Area to Get Another Solar-Minded Subdivision

A few weeks after developer Taurus announced it is starting a solar-powered, energy neutral housing development in Austin, Texas, giant homebuilder Lennar says it is also planning a “solar-standard community” near the city.

Lennar’s project is a subdivision called Colorado Crossing, planned near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. According to David Kaiserman, CEO of SunStreet Energy Group, a Lennar subsidiary that works with solar panel installers, the project came into being as a response to consumer inclinations.

“This is about consumer relevance, this is something they want,” he told the Austin Statesman. “We have not built this business on being green — this is a real business built on economics and consumer needs.”
