New Home Sales Improved In 2015 But Are Still Below Historical Numbers

New home sales reached their highest levels since 2008 and were up 14.5 percent on a calendar year basis from 2014, Trulia reports.

Despite the fact that the overall numbers are still well below historical sales, this represents a steady, albeit slow, increase in demand from homebuyers, a positive sign heading into 2016 for the U.S. economy.

The demand for starter homes, however, is still relatively low. Only 19 percent of new home sales were below $200,000 in 2015, which is down 4 percent from 2014’s 23 percent.
