New Houses Have More of Everything

In 2000, the average new American home had 2,300 square feet, three bedrooms, and 2.5 bathrooms. That’s just not enough anymore.

The New York Times, citing a housing survey from the Census Bureau, reports that the average new house is now 2,687 square feet, and that it’s more likely to have three or more bathrooms and four or more bedrooms.

The new house market, the New York Times says, is being driven by wealthy people building homes in suburbs, and builders are more than willing to accommodate them.
