Donald R. Horton, the founder of home building company D.R. Horton, has died.
D.R. Horton, one of the nation’s largest home building companies, which ranked No. 1 on Pro Builder's 2023 Housing Giants list, recently announced the death of its founder, Donald R. Horton. Horton, age 74, served as chairman of D.R. Horton since it was formed in 1991 and as president and CEO from July 1991 until November 1998. Under his leadership, the home building company closed more than 1 million homes and grew its operations to encompass 119 markets in 33 states. Effective immediately, David V. Auld, the company’s executive vice chairman, will fill Horton’s role as executive chairman.
