INOX Debuts In-Jamb Barn Door Lock

July 20, 2017

Responding to the recent rise in popularity of sliding barn doors, hardware and lock creator INOX has developed a patent-pending privacy lock for barn doors. The lock is installed inside the jamb rather than on the door, making it more discreet than typical sliding door locks.

“Barn doors remain a strong trend given their old world charm, variety of design styles, and space-saving efficiency, yet we found that there wasn’t a true locking mechanism that could offer seamless design as well as reliable privacy,” says Jeff Howes, president of INOX. “We responded to this market need by inventing our industry-exclusive Barn Door Lock.”

The Barn Door locking mechanism features a one-inch bolt with a thumb turn to lock securely from inside a room. A variety of thumb turns, including some that meet ADA standards, are available. The mounted strike features a discreet spring-loaded dust cover, and there is a decorative cap with a safety release on the opposite side of the door for emergency access from outside the room.

The lock is available in six finishes including bright stainless steel, satin stainless steel, satin brass, satin chrome, oil rubbed bronze and graphite black.
