Australian hardware manufacturer Tirar has unveiled what it is calling the first line of solid wood door pulls and levers for the architecture and design market.

Created by interior designer Felice Carlino, the collection comes in a range of five standard FSC-certified species: Australian spotted gum, Tasmanian blackwood, Tasmanian blackheart sassafras, European oak, and American walnut.

Carlino says he saw a need in the market for products that fit the characteristics he wanted. “Everything I found was a combination of timber and metal, which didn’t look very nice, and also didn’t feel comfortable in the hand,” he says. “So I decided to design my own.”

The concept was a solid timber door pull and lever that was beautiful to look at and beautiful to hold, with a handle that would respond to the mechanical workings of the fingers and hands, the designer says.

“Fingers are made up of three joints that wrap themselves around the grip,” Carlino explains. “So we crafted a taper and radius edges so the door pull and lever would sit within the grip of the hand and also be comfortable in more delicate hands.”

These products are available in three standard lengths and can be customized in various wood species, depending on wood suitability and minimum order. Sealed with marine-grade sealer and finished with a marine-grade clear top coat in a satin finish, the pulls can be mounted onto solid wood and glass doors.

The range of products includes pull handles, lever handles, universal design lever handles, and towel rails.

Products are availed globally for high-end commercial, residential, healthcare, and hospitality projects.
